At first, coronation street was shown in black and white, but as new technology was founded, there was a higher demand for the show to be shown in colour, therefore on the 17th November 1969, the first ever colour episode of coronation street was shown. Sound quality also improved, the sound quality was previously muffled in the 20th century episodes, but now in the 21st, the sound quality is much more sharper, this acts as a contribution to absorbing the audience. After improving the sound quality, then came the introduction of high definition (HD), this introduction brang the show into the 21st century, the show was first shown in HD on 31st may 2010. Due to the introduction of HD, avid systems were introduced, by introducing avid systems, it allowed the show's producers faster access to material, which therefore, in the long - term, leads to more money for the budget. Recently, the show has agreed to move to the brand new media city in Manchester, in which they will create a new set, which will in turn, make the street seem more up to date and modernisied, the move will also give the show's producers more access to equipment and better technological media.
